The San Francisco Transgender Film Festival is delighted to award our 2025 Dream Commissions.

Dream Commissions are investments in the ongoing artistic, creative, and community practices of filmmakers. We are extending $2,000 to 5 BIPOC trans, transgender, gender-nonconforming, Indigenous Two-Spirit, non-binary, gender-expansive, and genderqueer filmmakers.

Our 2025 recipients are these talented artists:  

Vee Hua (they/them)

Vee Hua 華婷婷 (they/them) is a journalist, filmmaker, and film educator who intends to go into production on their feature film, RECKLESS SPIRITS, in 2025. It is a multilingual metaphysical POC best friend comedy. Their recent role as Executive Director of the interdisciplinary community hub, Northwest Film Forum, they played a groundbreaking role in making the space accessible for diverse audiences. Their narrative short film, RECKLESS SPIRITS, is a metaphysical, multi-lingual POC comedy; the feature film is slated for production in 2025.

Vee is also in post-production on a documentary short about Hunt’s Trading Post near the Navajo and Southern Ute Nations. They have a Master’s in Tribal Resource and Environmental Stewardship in American Indian Studies from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Learn more about them here.

Ryan Rox (she/they)

Ryan Rox is a queer, Latine Director, Writer, and Actor of Trans experience, living and working in New Mexico. Rox also works as a Co-Director at Femme Frontera. Rox recently completed her debut feature film, HIDDEN FLORA. Rox is grateful to have showcased her work at NewFest, the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival, and more. Rox’s work has been supported by Film Fatales, The Dazey Phase, and Daniella’s Guestbook. Her primary focus is uplifting queer narratives; creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC employment; and bringing awareness to, and sparking empathy in, those unfamiliar with or misinformed about the community. 

Amir Jaffer (he/him)

Nour moved from Northern California to New York City to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. They studied at Playwrights Horizons Theater School and the Experimental Theater Wing, earning a BFA in Drama with a minor in Cinema Studies. Nour has also studied improv and sketch writing at UCB, The PIT, and the Groundlings. They operate under the belief that all communication is a work of art, that art’s purpose is to bring us closer together by any medium necessary. Mar Angélica Molina (they/them)

Amir is an award-winning Director and Producer with a wide range of experience in film-making. He has produced documentaries, features, short films, web-series and music videos. Some of Amir’s movies are streaming on Amazon and some of his work was released on PBS and MTV.

Whitney Skauge (they/them)

WHITNEY SKAUGE (they/them) is Director/Editor working in documentary film. Skauge uses their work as an extension of social and political activism, advocating for diverse storytelling and representation on both sides of the camera. Their debut short film, The Beauty President, honors AIDS activist and drag artist Terence Alan Smith. The film premiered at SXSW in March 2021 and was produced by Academy Award®-winning company Breakwater Studios and Executive Produced by Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani of Hillman Grad Productions.
